For the Brown Butter Frosting:
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
- 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Batter
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch (or 9×9-inch) baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix mashed bananas, melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
- Beat in eggs and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in sour cream (or Greek yogurt) and mix until smooth.
- Gently fold in chocolate chips or nuts, if using.
Step 2: Bake
- Pour batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool completely before adding frosting.
Step 3: Make the Brown Butter Frosting
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma (about 3-5 minutes). Remove from heat immediately.
- Gradually whisk in powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Pour and spread the frosting over the cooled brownies.
Step 4: Serve
- Let the frosting set for about 15 minutes before slicing.
- Cut into squares and enjoy!
